Pampaneira was created from a photo that I took while on a trip to the province of Granada, Spain. This visit mainly consisted of walking, eating, and drinking in a repeated rhythm once interrupted by an unforgettable visit to the local hammam. Basically, an ideal vacation. On the last full day, we decided to take an excursion up into the mountains to a small village, Pampaneira.

It was a perfect fall day intact with ominous clouds rolling across the horizon. I learned a little bit about the Moorish people whose cultural history is still very much intact and visible in the mountains that surround the village as well as in the streets.

My painting vastly differs from a true representation of the village because the buildings there are entirely white washed. I found the village beautiful nonetheless. The point of adding so much color to the buildings was to intensify the electrifying feeling of being there.
